Collecting and storing seeds
We gather seeds from across Tasmania’s production forests, storing around 15,000kg – or 1.4 billion seeds! Seeds are tested every three years to ensure viability and can stay healthy in storage for up to 20 years.
Growing healthy seedlings
Our nursery team grows around 1.5 million seedlings annually, across nearly 50 native species. Each seedling is nurtured until it’s strong enough to be planted back into the forest.
Supporting forest regeneration
The Nursery and Seed Centre supports our reforestation program, helping maintain healthy forests that deliver sustainable timber, support biodiversity, and capture carbon for future generations.
We collect the highest quality seed from:
- Tasmanian eucalypts
- Tasmanian acacias
- Plus, a variety of other species including bottle brush and mountain berry.

Geographical match
With our own seedbank we aim to match provenance seed wherever possible.
Seedlings planted in similar conditions to those they were harvested from have the best chance of survival.
